The ideas of "Etude No. 1" led to deeper thought, inspiration, and focus for creating "In Stride". It is a musical self-portrait -- a culmination of my life, learning, and outlook (at the time, in 2007). It took about a year to get it out of me, and get it right. Most of the acoustic guitar phrasing and all of the solos were improvisations. The programmed drum/percussion elements were the only fully-planned part of the song. Once I captured the single take that expressed my thoughts and feelings best, I went back through and learned what I improvised so I could apply multi-part harmonies and fretless bass.
